McGrath's books use a historiographical methodology called "triangulation", which is a welcome variant of, or improvement on, the numerous "criteria of authenticity" that have becomes so controversial and exhausting in the field of Jesus studies. By using "triangulation" in careful and responsible ways, he is able to make wise suggestions about various threads of factuality that can be discerned in the biblical narratives.
