Neils Peter Lemche is exactly right: what is sought by legislators in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, to name three cases, is closer to 'preaching' than to 'teaching.' A resolutely ahistorical attitude about how the Hebrew Bible was composed makes it hard to teach about the Bible. Even if this is 'merely' a symbolic culture war struggle to some, others will use it as a mandate to proseltyze and harrangue.
