There are different lenses through which we can brainstorm the content and theology of the Fourth Gospel in India. The way you suggest to look at John is another interpretative framework. As John's Gospel has exclusive claims like "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life" (14:6), it is difficult to interpret the text in multi-religious contexts like India. What I suggest is a kind of looking at John from a higher theological and philosophical level. If I read the Gospel from missional and ministerial point of view, I may read it in a different way.
