You invert the burden of proof (yeah your Ad Hominem of Christians being stupid/unwilling to change didn't hide this), and instead of posing the logical question of "why would we alter the common designations we have been using thus far" to instead be "why wouldn't we adopt the new designations?". As you yourself state, this isn't a new method of dating.
It is an explicit secular move to remove Christian terminology, and has a glaring obvious issue to anyone who thinks about it for more than half a second. This issue is, "okay, what happened at 0 CE?" (the epoch). The entire argument for BCE/CE is to my understanding a movement for historical & cultural appropriation, in the genuine sense (not the nonsense often being thrown around).
If they successfully replace BC/AD, they have done nothing but erase significant history. History which has been utilized for at least the past 10 centuries in Western civilizations. BCE/CE has done nothing to justify it's existence whatsoever. It hasn't come with a new understanding of history, a more accurate method of keeping track of historical periods, or anything.
It simply exists as a parasite (of quite frankly, political correct nature) to strip away historical culture. Whether or not AD is even accurate to Christ's birth is entirely irrelevant frankly. The value of BC/AD never existed in religion (although it originated from it), it existed in it's cultural value. Do you still celebrate Christmas on December 25th? And why would that be, have we not already disproven that as the literal date of Christ's birth, not to mention the right month?
But let's revisit the implications of Globalization. You state an issue with BC/AD "tyrannical" & imposes on other systems. How exactly does the BCE/CE mimicry which puppets the shell of BC/AD avoid this? You aren't changing the dates. What happens when the Muslim asks what origin point we center ourselves around, our "0 CE"?
And that it is "tyrannical"? Please, don't be so chauvinistic. Is the Arabic Alphabet the math of tyrants then, because it is uniformly used and adopted by most 1st world countries? Have you not heard that the Islamic Golden Age was deeply intertwined with the Islamic faith? Did the scientific community forget they also need a new numbering system?
For a professor versed in science & reasoning, surely you must be aware of the difference between possibility and certainty when it comes to validity.
