The letters that claimed to read "Israel" in Merneptah stele does actually read "Asyria" rather than "Israel!" The two slashes representing the "Y" are before the "R" like in "Asyr," and not anywhere in "Israel!" And after the "R" goes "ia" like in "ria," not "ae" or "ai" like in "rael!"
