That was an usual and surprising look at the story of Elijah and Elisha. I liked it, but I must admit that humor and carnival are not something I associate with the Deuteronomistic History. I've seen the Deuteronomistic History instead as kind of political propaganda of the royal party during the time of King Josiah and his religious program. What could be the motives of the writers in late 7. century Jerusalem to depict Elijah and Elisha this way? Or is this a result of the revision during the Babylonian exile, and what would be their motives for it?
I would be grateful for links and references for further reading about Elijah along those lines ($106.35 for Reduced Laughter looks expensive to me, an amateur).
