I read this as a researcher on Minoan religious influence. I'm currently exploring possible connections between the Serpent Goddess of Crete and Asherah or Astarte. I thought this was a fantastic piece with a great deal of evidence to explore. If I made any suggestion, it would be to distinguish between speculation and fact a bit more clearly. Speculation is the name of the game in archaeology, but it needs to be clear to prevent many of the issues commonly associated with archaeologists. Finally, I simply have to respond to another comment on this essay: "Finally, the underlying implication of this presentation is very much in line with the unfortunately popular notion on college campuses today that history is essentially a class war between women and the patriarchy." I ask this person, if it is a popular notion on the campuses of well-funded institutions of higher education, burdened with the duty to enlighten a person's mind as much as possible, can it really be dismissed so cynically? Sexism is not the end-all of every historical context, but it is an aspect of every historical context. As is all intersectional dimensions.
