The printing press had not been invented for centuries after the NewTestament was written. For at least decade and more likely two, the Word traveled by word of mouth, much like the book of Genesis and the complete Pentateuch. If you follow the chronological order of Genesis you’ll see that all those before Lamech were present when Adam was still living and could speak to the man Adam and his wife Eve the mother of all the living.
So what’s my point?
After the word of mouth deliverance by the new scribes (New Testament authors) everything was written on papyrus. Papyrus scrolls could or would disintegrate over time. The other manuscripts were made of vellum which held up. Older is not better, it’s just older.
