The word "Christian" did not exist in the time of Jesus. NONE of His followers called themselves CHRISTIANS. Jesus never referred to Himself as a Christian. While it is true that His followers today consider Him to be the founder of Christianity, I do not think that He was aware that He was starting a new religion separate from Judaism. He was a devout Jew, raised in a devout Jewish family. He went to the Temple to worship, the JEWISH Temple and saw himself as a Jew, not as a Christian. If Jesus were alive today there are two things that would be true. He would find the Christian worship in churches to be strange and foreign to Him, and He would probably not be accepted by Christians. because He would come across to them as some hippie preaching about peace and love. He stood for rebellion against authority, especially the religious authorities of His day, whereas Christian pastors demand obedience from their congregants or they are ex-communicated. Jesus loved everyone regardless of race, religion, creed or anything else, something that Christians cannot generally say about themselves. Jesus was a Jew, but He was also the Christian that Christians can NEVER be, because He was perfect and ordinary human beings, including Christians, are far from being perfect. Christianity is a man-made religion, whereas Jesus was God (according to Christians). I love Jesus but hate Christianity, at least the hypocritical fake Christianity practiced in the West.
