I just came across this quote by Irenaeus (c. AD 180):
"Then John, the disciple of the Lord, who also leaned on his breast, himself produced his Gospel while he was living at Ephesus in Asia."

This deflated your argument for me. The early church tradition was that John, was the one leaning on Jesus in Ch.13, specifically the disciple "Jesus loved". You address literary issues very well, but I would like a more thorough addressing of the church traditions than you put forth.
